Overview

Epidemiologic International Day for the Evaluation of Patients at Risk of Venous Thrombosis in the Acute Hospital Care Setting (ENDORSE)

Objectives

The primary objectives of this survey are:

  • To identify patients at risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE) among medical and surgical patients hospitalized in representative hospitals throughout the world.
  • To determine the proportion of at-risk hospital patients who receive effective types of VTE prophylaxis.

Design

ENDORSE is a multinational, observational, cross-sectional survey, which will include over 50,000 patients from 400 representative acute care hospitals located in 30 countries/regions.

Population

All hospitalized patients will be enumerated on the day of this survey. Patients in eligible wards will be reviewed and reasons for exclusion will be recorded; a full case report form (CRF) will be completed on all eligible patients.

Ethics

All data will be collected from a review of medical records. Patients will not be contacted. No identifiable patient data will be transmitted outside of study hospitals. Each participating hospital will obtain approval to conduct this survey from their hospital.s ethics committee.

Sponsorship

ENDORSE is sponsored by a grant from Sanofi to the Center for Outcomes Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS). UMMS will own all study data and is responsible for protecting the confidentiality of patients, physicians and hospitals participating in this survey.

Publications

Scientific publications will be developed under the direction of an independent Scientific Advisory Committee. Publications will not identify individual hospital data. Data presented in publications will be limited to findings aggregated at the country level and higher.
