GRACE: Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events
Methodology

Study Size

Grace will collect data from patients hospitalized with ACS in 100 hospitals located in 14 countries. The basic unit of analysis will be the hospital.

The goal is to enrol approximately 10,000 patients per year. Thus, each hospital will enrol an average of 100 patients per year. The total number of patients enrolled at each hospital will depend upon the actual number of patients discharged with ACS and the specific sampling strategy adopted at that site. All hospitals will enrol an unbiased sample of ACS cases that meet the predefined eligibility criteria.

A sample of 100 patients will provide adequate statistical power to estimate proportions within +3% or -3% with 95% confidence. Data aggregated across countries and regions will provide significantly better precision. This level of precision is appropriate and necessary to address clinically important questions relating to variations in practices and outcomes among the participating hospitals, regions and countries.
